The Department of Food Science and Technology, under the Centre for Sustainable Mountain Agriculture at the College of Natural Resources (CNR), is currently conducting a specialized hands-on training on Plant Tissue Culture, Viral Indexing, and Genetic Fidelity Testing from May 19 to May 31, 2025.
This training is organized in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MoAL) and is generously funded through the GOI-PTA program via the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC).
Participants include officials from key national institutions such as the National Seed Centre, Regional seed centre, Agriculture Research and Development Centres (ARDCs), National Biodiversity Centre (NBC), National Centre
for Organic Agriculture (NCOA), and the MoAL. The training aims to strengthen national capacity in advanced plant biotechnology and seed quality assurance.
The first four days are dedicated to theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations on plant tissue culture techniques. This will be followed by intensive hands-on sessions on viral indexing and genetic fidelity testing to ensure the production of disease-free and genetically stable planting materials.
This initiative reflects a strong commitment to building scientific expertise and promoting sustainable agricultural practices through cutting-edge biotechnological tools.
