Located in lush Punakha valley and overlooking Punatsangchhu River, CNR’s campus immediately gives one a sense of peace and harmony. Built in accordance with Bhutan’s traditional architecture, the campus features ornately carved and painted stone and wooden facilities, and the grounds are attractively landscaped with flowers, student art, and peaceful rest areas.
Students are centre of our attention and care. During your stay at CNR, we want you to feel that CNR is your home away from home. The college strives and will continue to strive towards fulfilling the needs of the students that are fundamental to their learning and living while at CNR. The following are some of the college’s main facilities and services at the disposal of our students.
Accommodation
The college has two residential campuses within the college premises. Campus One is a catered campus with a provision of free cooks but the students have to contribute fees for operating the student mess. Campus Two is located about one and a half kilometers west of the academic complex. It is a self-catered campus. To safeguard the campus, a full-time day security guard is deployed.
Recreational and Spiritual amenities
Both the campuses are provided with games and sports facilities. The Campus Two has a basketball court and a football pitch, while the other has a mini football pitch, basketball court, tennis court and volleyball court.The Entertainment and Recreational Services, a student club organizes departmental, regional and inter-house tournaments as co-curricular activities during the academic sessions.
The college is also within the reach of several spiritual and historical places. Chimi Lhakhang, the seat of Devine mad-man called Lam Drukpa Kuenley is 3.5 km north of the college. Lam Drukpa Kuenley is known to bless barren women with the much-needed child/ren besides having the supernatural power to heal all types of ailment. Other spiritual and historical places within walking distance of the place include: Dorongthang Goenpa, Talo Goempa, Khamsum Lhakhang, Khuju Lhakhang, Nyeger Lhakhang, Punakha Dzong etc.
Library
To best cater to the needs of both the students and faculty, the library of the college is centrally and strategically located within the college premises. It has a good collection of text books, periodicals, journals, newsletters from relevant and or renowned institutions, and many other reading and reference materials. In addition, the college also has access to a number of e-resources from a wide variety of renowned universities, international and national agencies. The library is staffed by four friendly, well-trained librarians, who have long experience in running the library. The borrowing and lending of library resources is quite advanced with online reservation and automated borrowing facility.
Classrooms
Classrooms are adequately furnished with modern teaching technologies. In addition to chalkboards and whiteboards, all classrooms are equipped with LCD projector, computer and other associated paraphernalia. To beat the heat, which can really soar up during summer months, each class room is equipped with several fans.
Science Laboratory
For basic soil analysis, bio and zoo practical classes, and other agro-related practicum, the college has two spacious laboratories on the ground floor of the main academic building. The laboratories are gradually being strengthened to meet the emerging needs. Agriculture and Animal Farms
The Department of Agriculture has a 3-acre farm where students conduct various practical field works. The farm has several kinds of stone fruits and other sub-tropical fruits. The Department of Animal Science runs dairy, piggery and poultry farms for practical classes. The products from these farms are sold to both the students and staff at subsidized rates.
ICT and computer facilities
The college has adequate ICT facilities, including wireless and wi-fi internet access. There are two ICT laboratories. One of these is solely dedicated for browsing online information and communication needs of the students while the other is for ICT classes and GIS tutorials. Teaching materials are available on the college server through virtual learning environment (VLE) platforms such as content management system (CMS) and moodleFor any trouble shooting in ICT related matters, both students and staff can seek assistance from the two experienced ICT personnel who are based full time in the college.
Mess Hall
The old dining hall being a little too small to accommodate the growing number of students will soon be replaced by a brand new dining hall. Its construction is nearing completion. The new dining hall not only comes with modern amenities and facade, but also is spacious and majestically located to overlook the meandering Puna Tsangchu (river).
Refectory and grocery
The college boasts a wet and a dry canteen which sell meals, snacks and grocery items at a fair price. Whilst the former is located near the staff quarters in the so-called Village Square the other is located on the ground floor of the Campus One boys’ dormitory.
Healthcare
The basic health needs of the students are taken care of by the Provost and a select group of senior students. However, for major health problems, students can choose to either visit Punatshangchu clinic (0.7 km outside the main college gate) or visit Bajo Grade-A Basic Health Unit (BHU) or Punakha Dzongkhag Hospital both of which are located 8 and 11 km east and north of the college respectively.
