Brief Background:

Dr. Jigme Tenzin is a Lecturer in the Department of Animal Science at the College of Natural Resources. With over a decade of experience in academia, his expertise lies in animal genetics and breeding, climate-smart agriculture, and ICT integration in teaching. He teaches modules ranging from introductory computer applications to advanced topics in animal genetics and breeding, and statistics. He holds a Master’s degree in Agriculture from Khon Kaen University, Thailand and a Bachelor’s in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, from College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University, Selesih, Aizawl, India – 796014.

He has served in multiple leadership roles including Head of Department, Programme Leader for BSc in Animal Science, Centre Coordinator for Rural Development Studies (CRDS), and Head of the Centre for Sustainable Mountain Agriculture (CSMA). In these roles, he has led the development of new academic programmes, coordinated international summer training initiatives, and secured significant funding for infrastructural and research projects including dairy and piggery farms.

Dr. Jigme is deeply passionate about professional development, having facilitated numerous training programs on statistical software (particularly R), climate-smart agriculture, and virtual learning environments for faculty, students, and national stakeholders. He is especially known for promoting ICT in education and has been instrumental in guiding the faculty through transitions to virtual learning platforms.

His research interests include big data, one health, conservation of native domestic animal germplasm,  and climate-smart agriculture. He is a recipient of the Young Scientist Award from TASP ICONC – 2019 and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals. His vision for the college is to foster an inclusive academic environment that nurtures innovation, empowers faculty and students, and strengthens institutional collaboration for national and global impact.

Dean of Student Affairs



Name: Dr. Tandin Gyeltshen

Brief Background:

Dr. Tandin Gyeltshen is a Lecturer and the current Dean of Student Affairs at the College of Natural Resources (CNR), Royal University of Bhutan, based in Punakha. He holds a PhD in Agriculture from Khon Kaen University, Thailand, and postgraduate degrees in English Literature and Dzongkha. With over two decades of diverse experience in academia, administration, and development work, Dr. Tandin has served in multiple leadership roles, including Head of Department, Programme Leader for the BSc in Sustainable Development, and Coordinator for International Students and Entrepreneurship Development Programmes. He currently teaches modules on Dzongkha Communication, Bhutanese Society and Culture, Academic and Analytical Skills, Public Policy, and Entrepreneurship Development.

Dean of Research and Industrial Linkages



Name: Dr. Sonam Tashi

Brief Background:

Dr. Sonam Tashi, Assoc. Professor, currently serves as the Dean of Industrial Linkages. He also served as the Dean of Academic Affairs at the College. Dr. Tashi, completed his BSc in Horticulture from the University of Philippines at Los Baños, Master’s in Agriculture from the University of Melbourne, Australia and PhD from the University of Bonn, Germany. Both his Master and PhD was in Organic Agriculture.  Prior to joining the College of Natural Resources in 2008, Dr. Tashi worked as the Deputy Chief of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests. He also served as the General Manager at Druk Seed Corporation and Asst. Research Officer in Renewal Natural Resource Research Centre, Jakar. 

Dr. Tashi also serves as an editor of the International Journal of Environment and Bhutan Journal of Natural Resources Development. He is also an Assoc. editor of the International Society of Organic Agriculture Research and Research Ambassador of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). He is an Executive Member in Towards Organic Asia for Mekong Region and Bhutan. Dr. Tashi is specialized in organic agriculture and is also interested in medicinal and aromatic plants and sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture. Dr. Tashi is also a recipient of the Gold Medal for Excellence (2012).
