Dr. Yonten Dorji is a Scientist at the College of Natural Resources, Royal University of Bhutan specializing in forest dynamics, climate science, and conservation. He earned his PhD in Forest Sciences and Forest Ecology from the Göttingen University, Germany. He also holds an MSc in Climatology & Mountain Forestry from BOKU University, Vienna, Austria, and a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Botany from the University of Queensland, Australia.
Dr. Dorji is currently a Programme Leader for the MSc Conservation Biology programme. He has served as Head of the Department of Forest Science [2016–2019]. He also worked as an Expatriate Scientist at the Georg-August-Universität, Goettingen, Germany [2019–2022], where he contributed to global forest ecology studies.
An active scholar, Dr. Dorji has numerous publications in high-impact journals. He supervises PhD and MSc research candidates, serves on the College Research Committee (CRC), College Academic Committee (CAC), and engages in peer-review as a Reviewer & Section Editor for the Journal of Trees (Springer NATURE), BJNRD & Journal of Plant Genetic Resources (Cambridge University Press).

Mr. Ugyen Dorji

Asst. Professor Ugyen Dorji is a leading freshwater ecologist in Bhutan with over a decade of experience in teaching, research, and professional services. His academic and research interests lie in freshwater and wetland ecosystems, river morphology, spatial distribution and statistical modeling of species, hydrology, and ecohydrology.
He has facilitated more than 70 professional and capacity-building trainings and has authored over 70 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, policy briefs, and technical reports. He has also served as a consultant and expert advisor on numerous national projects related to aquatic biodiversity, hydropower impact assessments, environmental flows, and climate change impacts on river systems.
In his teaching role, he engages students in diverse subjects such as freshwater and woodland ecosystems, river morphology, spatial modeling, and ecohydrological processes. He is also seasoned in guiding postgraduate research and supervising large-scale projects. He is also the Co-founder of Water Research Bhutan and has contributed as a National Technical Working Group member for water resources management in Bhutan.
As Head of the Centre for Environment and Climate Research at the Royal University of Bhutan, he continues to build research culture, mentor young scholars, and lead collaborations that bridge science, policy, and conservation practice.

Mr. Laxmi Sagar is an Associate Lecturer at the Department of Forest Science, College
of Natural Resources, Royal University of Bhutan. He holds a Bachelor of Science in
Forestry and a Master of Science in Conservation Biology by Research from the
College of Natural Resources, as well as a Master of Science in Organic Agriculture and
Agroecology from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU),
Austria.
His research interests span freshwater ecology, forest ecology, and biodiversity
conservation, with a particular focus on understanding ecological interactions and their
implications for sustainable resource management in Bhutan. He is committed to linking
scientific inquiry with applied conservation practices that enhance ecosystem resilience
and support sustainable livelihoods.
Mr. Sagar is actively involved in both teaching and research, contributing to capacity
building and interdisciplinary learning in the environmental and forest sciences. His work
promotes student engagement in field-based research and the development of
innovative ecological solutions to address emerging environmental challenges in the
Himalayan region.
